Three former partners of Hunter Biden are expected to testify about his drug addiction during his firearm trial.
Prosecutors shared their case against Hunter Biden, who's scheduled for trial on June 3 in Delaware, on Monday. They revealed key witnesses and what they plan to say in court, and unveiled text messages and photos they'll display to the jury.
Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to three charges related to the gun case, all connected to Weiss' accusation that he was using drugs when he bought and possessed a revolver in 2018, which violates federal law.
The highly personal nature of this case will put a national spotlight on what Hunter Biden referred to as his rock bottom.
Hunter Biden has been open about his lifelong fight with alcohol and drug addiction. To secure a conviction, however, Weiss needs to vividly convey his addiction to the jury through captivating witnesses and photo evidence.
The anticipated witnesses include Hunter Biden's former spouse Kathleen Buhle, his late brother's widow, whom he later dated, Hallie Biden, and Lunden Roberts, an Arkansas native who had a child with Hunter Biden. The filings didn't disclose their names, but Weiss' description of their testimony aligns with other public details and court documents from related lawsuits.
According to the prosecution, one witness, believed to be Hallie Biden, will testify that Hunter Biden had the revolver in 2018 and that she discarded it in a Wilmington, Delaware, dumpster near a grocery store. She'll testify about looking through his belongings multiple times in 2018 where she found drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Another witness, most likely Roberts, will claim that she saw Hunter Biden using crack cocaine constantly, about every 20 minutes except when he slept.
The filing from prosecutors contains numerous text messages allegedly from Hunter Biden, including images of drugs and messages about sobriety and meeting with drug dealers.
"The government intends to display videos and photographs of the defendant smoking crack, or of crack or drug paraphernalia in videos/photographs saved on the defendant's Apple iCloud account or laptop, or sent in the defendant's messages," prosecutors stated.
Other witnesses prosecutors will summon include federal agents and the gun store employee who sold Hunter Biden the pistol in 2018. One DEA agent will discuss coded language and drug terms Hunter Biden allegedly used in texts with others, such as "baby powder," "Party Favor," "10grams," and "chore boy."
