- Thieves break into a jewelry store in a shopping mall

Thieves in Berlin have struck again, using a car to drive into a shopping center to steal jewelry from a jewelry store. After a similar incident in Steglitz's Schlossstraße in early June, unknown perpetrators struck again on the Greifswalder Straße in Prenzlauer Berg, both times at night.

Part of the loot lost

Alert neighbors in the Prenzlauer Berg district called the police early Thursday morning, according to the police. The thieves drove into the shopping center around 2:50 AM and made their way several meters to the jewelry store.

According to police, the burglars broke the store's front window. Inside, they smashed display cases and stole jewelry before leaving the shopping center on foot - and losing part of their loot. By the time police arrived, the perpetrators had fled. The lost jewelry and the getaway car were recovered.

Police investigating possible connection

Police are investigating and exploring a possible connection to a similar incident in early June: In the early hours of June 4, several unknown perpetrators drove a car into a large shopping center in Steglitz's Schlossstraße. The thieves got out of the car and stole jewelry before fleeing the shopping center. An accomplice picked them up in a second car, police said. The first car was left behind.

The investigation by the police has uncovered that the Member States involved in this series of jewel heists are Berlin and Steglitz. Despite escaping with most of the loot, the thieves left valuable items behind in both incidents.
