At the Made by Google 2024 event, the Californians unveiled their latest lineup of smartphones. This consists of four devices - the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. During the presentation, it was mentioned that this is "the biggest update that the Pixel family has ever seen".

The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL

The Pro model of the new Pixels is available in two different sizes for the first time. While the smaller variant comes with a 6.3-inch display, the XL version has a 6.8-inch display. Apart from the size of the screen, which affects resolution and dimensions, and the battery (4,700 mAh/5,060 mAh), there are no other technical differences. The Pixel 9 Pro is simply a more compact version of the XL variant. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 features an Actua Full-View display also with 6.3 inches and a 4,700-mAh battery.

Each of the three devices is said to have a maximum battery life of up to 100 hours when using an "ultra power-saving mode". The Pro variants come with 16GB of RAM, while the more affordable Pixel 9 has 12GB. All of them run on a new processor, the Google Tensor G4, which is reportedly the fastest and most efficient processor in Google smartphones to date. This processor is designed to improve the use of everyday applications, whether it's browsing the internet, taking photos, or streaming video content.

The Pixel 9 features a dual rear camera system with a 50MP wide-angle and 48MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The Pro and Pro XL each have an additional 48MP camera with a telephoto lens.

In terms of design, the series is elegant with rounded corners, polished metal sides, and a matte glass back. The Pixel 9 comes in the colors Peony, Wintergreen, Porcelain, and Obsidian. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are available in Rose Quartz, Hazel, Porcelain, and Obsidian.

Many of the smartphones' features are based on AI support, and the hardware is said to ensure readiness for a future with new advancements in artificial intelligence. The company promises software, feature, and security updates for the next seven years.

The foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold

The standout device among those presented is undoubtedly the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This device has an outer Actua Full-View display and an inner so-called Super Actua Flex Full-View display measuring 204 millimeters (8 inches) - the largest of any Google smartphone to date. The new Fold can be fully unfolded, and the display is said to be 80% brighter than that of the Pixel Fold.

Here too, the Tensor G4 processor and 16GB of RAM are used, with the battery coming in at 4,650 mAh, which is said to last up to 72 hours in the aforementioned power-saving mode. Like the other Pro models, it features a triple rear camera system, but this one consists of a 48MP wide-angle camera, 10.5MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and 10.8MP camera with a telephoto lens. The smartphone is available in the colors Porcelain and Obsidian.
