In a new trailer for the sequel to the Korean hit series "Squid Game," lead actor Lee Jung-jae is seen in his role as game contestant Seong Gi-hun. Seong Gi-hun was one of 456 heavily indebted people who competed in the first season of the Netflix series for 45.6 billion South Korean won.

The roughly one-minute trailer shows him in the iconic series outfit, a green tracksuit worn by all game participants. He even retains his contestant number from the first season: 456. Other contestants are also part of the trailer, but their faces are not shown, only their numbers.

Season two will be released at Christmas

Netflix announced in early August that the new season would be available on December 26 this year. The announcement video gave a first taste of the brutalities that await in the new season.

The South Korean production, which started in 2021, is considered the most successful Netflix series of all time. In the first season, contestants competed against each other in seemingly harmless children's games. But the macabre competition left no room for second chances: those who didn't make it to the next round were immediately killed.

In its home country, "Squid Game" resonated with the zeitgeist, particularly for its open social critique. Growing inequality, discrimination against social minorities, extreme performance pressure: almost all of the country's major problems are addressed in the series.

Netflix announced that the series will end with a third season in 2025.

The successful first season of "Squid Game" earned it the title as Netflix's most successful series to date. Following this success, fans are eagerly anticipating the release of the successful series' second season at Christmas.
