Security - Several arrests in anti-terror operation in Denmark
Several people have been arrested during an anti-terrorist operation in various parts of Denmark. The Copenhagen police announced that the reason for this was the suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack. No further details were initially given. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on the sidelines of the EU summit in Brussels that the situation was as serious as it could be.
It is initially unclear how many suspects were arrested in the coordinated operation. The police and the secret service PET wanted to comment on the operation at a joint press conference in Copenhagen at around 13:00.
In Denmark, as in neighboring Sweden, there have been repeated Koran burnings this summer. The terrorist network Al-Qaeda had subsequently called for attacks against both countries. A week ago, the Danish parliament passed a law banning the burning of the Koran and other religious writings.
