Nurse Sees Life Imprisonment amid Charges of Purposefully Overdosing Insulin on Patients, State Prosecutors Report

A former nurse named Heather Pressdee is facing some harsh penalties after pleading guilty to several crimes. She was given three life sentences for first-degree murders and a whopping 380 to 760 years in prison for attempted murders, as per the statement.

The attorney general, Henry, mentioned that Pressdee used her trusted position as a way to harm patients who relied on her for care. He added that her guilty plea and the life sentence will not bring their loved ones back, but it will prevent her from hurting anyone else again.

Heather Pressdee pleaded guilty to avoid receiving the death penalty, her attorney, Philip DiLucente, informed CNN. She was accused of deliberately administering lethal and potentially lethal doses of medication to patients, spanning five different care facilities, between 2020 and 2023.

The charges mentioned that Pressdee had injected insulin into patients across Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, and Westmoreland counties. She was initially taken into custody in May 2023 for homicide and attempted murder charges after two men passed away and a third ended up in the hospital. Since her arrest, she's been in jail.

The criminal complaint against the nurse revealed that Pressdee acknowledged her intent to kill 19 patients whose ages ranged from 43 to 104. She was known to carry out these acts during the night shift, when there were fewer employees present, while working with the medicine cart at the facilities, according to the complaint.

Pressdee would go to great lengths to ensure her victims died before the next shift began, which would hinder medical testing like C-peptide tests that could expose her scheme to the authorities.

Family members of the victims shared their feelings during a recent court hearing in Butler County, describing the immense pain and sorrow from knowing their loved ones' deaths were due to a criminal act instead of a natural cause.
