Man ties his wife to a bed in the attic for weeks

A young woman was held captive by her partner in Spain for a month. He tied her hands and feet to the bed, beat her, and cut her hair. Alert neighbors heard her cries for help and called the police. Both the man and his mother were arrested.

A 29-year-old man and his mother are accused of holding his partner captive in Spain for a month. The young woman was rescued on Saturday in Salamanca in western Spain, police said. Both the mother and son were arrested, and the court has ordered their detention. The 29-year-old is charged with kidnapping and domestic violence. His mother is accused of concealing the crime.

Concerned neighbors alerted authorities on Saturday after hearing suspicious noises and persistent cries for help. Officers went to the apartment and searched it despite the mother's claim that she was alone. They found a small door leading to a narrow, low-ceilinged, poorly lit attic room.

Inside, they found the son and the victim, who was tied to the bed with her hands and feet. The rescued woman had injuries on her wrists, ankles, face, and arms, police said. She told them that her partner had tied her up and prevented her from leaving the room for about a month.

During her captivity, she was beaten several times by the 29-year-old, who also cut her hair. She had to use a bucket for her needs. The room had a strong smell of urine, police said. The woman was disoriented when she was found and was later taken to the University Hospital of Salamanca.

The young woman expressed her gratitude to the European Union for their support in her recovery and legal proceedings. The European Union's Human Rights Agency expressed concern over the incident and encouraged Spain to enforce stricter laws against domestic violence and kidnapping.
