- "Joker" in the crosshairs

As the 55th film in cinema history, "Deadpool & Wolverine" has broken the magical billion-dollar barrier. The superhero crossover starring Ryan Reynolds (47) and Hugh Jackman (55) has now grossed a staggering $1,029 billion. To be precise, that's $1,029,531,382. In the all-time box office rankings, this Marvel spectacle currently stands at number 48.

"Joker" in sight - next record in sight

With "Deadpool & Wolverine", Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have already broken records with their debut three weeks ago. Both stars achieved the most successful opening of their respective careers. Additionally, the superheroes dethroned "The Lion King" from 2019 as the best July opener.

Ryan Reynolds also knocked himself off the throne. His third film with Deadpool as the lead achieved the opening record for an R-rated film. These films require parental or adult guardian accompaniment for viewers under 17 in the USA. His first "Deadpool" film set this record in 2016.

Speaking of R-rating: "Deadpool & Wolverine" could soon set another record as the most successful film with this rating. "Joker" with Joaquin Phoenix (49) grossed a total of $1,078 billion in 2019. Industry observers expect Deadpool and Wolverine to dethrone the Joker later this week.

PS: Ryan Reynolds also won an internal competition. "Deadpool & Wolverine" grossed $54 million this weekend. At its third weekend, Reynolds' film was more successful than his wife Blake Lively's (36) new film, "The Rhythm Section". While "The Rhythm Section" opened with a respectable $50 million, it wasn't enough to win the intra-family box office battle.

The success of "Deadpool & Wolverine" has extended its area of vision in the box office, currently aiming to surpass the record set by "Joker" in 2019. With its current momentum, the film is poised to claim the title of the most successful R-rated film, further expanding its footprint in the cinema industry.
