- Jenoptik business has become more profitable

The board of Jenoptik AG expects a good business year 2024 for the listed company despite weak economic conditions. The expectations are based on a first half-year that was completed with growth in sales and earnings. The revenues of the Thuringian optics and electronics company increased by 7.1 percent to 540.8 million euros. After taxes, a profit of 40.2 million euros was generated - almost a third more than in the previous year.

CEO Stefan Traeger confirmed the business forecast in Jena. "Jenoptik has developed very well in a challenging overall market environment." It is expected that demand will further increase in the second half of the year. Impulses will come especially from the semiconductor industry, for which Jenoptik produces manufacturing equipment.

The board expects profitable sales growth in the mid-single-digit range for the full year. In 2023, the group's sales were just under 1.1 billion euros. The company's investments are expected to be slightly above the previous year's level of 110.4 million euros.

New factory in Dresden

Jenoptik employs almost 4,700 people and is one of the few listed technology companies in Eastern Germany. Its core business is optical systems, lasers, and measuring technology for various industrial applications and traffic monitoring. Around 70 percent of its sales are generated abroad.

Production capacities are currently being expanded - especially with a new factory in Dresden for equipment used in the semiconductor industry. Dresden is a center of the semiconductor industry in Europe.

Other industries might also benefit from Jenoptik's expansion in Dresden, potentially leading to increased demand for their products. The diversification of Jenoptik's customer base through the 'Other' industries could strengthen their business resilience in future economic conditions.
