Hamburg SPD meets for state party conference
A two-day SPD state party conference begins on Friday evening (19:00) in Wilhelmsburg with the nomination of the Hamburg candidates for the federal list for the European elections. Irene Appiah from the Mitte district, Laura Frick from Wandsbek and Danial Ilkhanipour from Eimsbüttl are competing for the first Hamburg place on the federal list. The race is considered open. The 350 or so party delegates will also be presented with a key European policy proposal from the state executive, which calls for a European port policy with the necessary infrastructure, among other things.
On Saturday (9.30 a.m.), before the deliberations on almost 60 motions on a wide range of topics, the first item on the party conference agenda is the election of the state executive committee. No major changes are to be expected. According to the board's proposal, the leadership duo of Senator for Economic Affairs Melanie Leonhard and Nils Weiland, who was appointed co-chair two years ago, will remain at the helm of the SPD state association for a further two years until 2025 and thus lead the party into the next parliamentary elections.
The SPD is actively participating in the EU elections, as the nomination of candidates for the federal list is a major focus of the state party conference. Despite the competitive race between Irene Appiah, Laura Frick, and Danial Ilkhanipour for the first Hamburg place on the federal list, the EU elections are expected to shape the party's European policy. Furthermore, the SPD state conference will discuss a proposal for a European port policy, emphasizing the need for necessary infrastructure.
