Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has passed away at the age of 56, her husband announced on Facebook. Wojcicki had been battling lung cancer for the past two years.

"With deep sadness, I must share the news of the passing of Susan Wojcicki. My beloved wife of 26 years, and mother to our five children, has left us today," Dennis Troper wrote in his Facebook post. He also shared some touching photos of his wife and family.

The family suffered another loss just a few months ago

This is the second tragedy to strike the family in just a few months. Earlier this year, their son Marco suddenly passed away. The 19-year-old was found unconscious and later pronounced dead. The cause of death was determined to be an "acute combined drug intoxication," according to the office of the medical examiner, as reported by US magazine "People".

To her husband, Wojcicki was "not only my best friend and life partner, but also a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a good friend to many." Troper and his family are "devastated but grateful for the time we had with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time."

Google CEO calls Susan Wojcicki the "heart of Google's story"

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also expressed his condolences on the social media platform X, calling Wojcicki the "heart of Google's story". "She shaped the story of Google in a profound way," writes Pichai. "She was an incredible person, leader, and friend who had a massive impact on the world, and I'm one of countless Googlers who are better for having known her. We will miss her dearly."

Wojcicki served as the CEO of Google's subsidiary YouTube for nine years. Last year, she announced her departure from her leadership role to focus on her family, health, and personal projects.

"During her time as CEO of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki made significant contributions to the platform, overseeing its growth and evolution." Despite stepping down last year to focus on her family and health, "You Tube remains a testament to her vision and leadership."
