Fire destroys house: police suspect arson

The fire in a detached house in Fintel (Rotenburg district) caused damage of around 200,000 euros. None of the four residents were injured, as the police announced on Monday. The police are assuming arson, they arrested a family member and then handed the man over for medical treatment. A police spokesperson was unable to provide any further details.

A 76-year-old resident was woken up by noises at around midnight. She discovered a burning wooden shelf in the conservatory. She was unable to extinguish the fire. She woke two residents, aged 56 and 76, and alerted the fire department. All three left the building unharmed. The fourth resident was in the immediate vicinity of the house. The fire department was unable to prevent the flames from spreading to the house.
