Ex-girlfriend murdered in school: 18-year-old sentenced to prison

The incident caused nationwide attention. An 18-year-old killed his ex-girlfriend of the same age in a school in St. Leon-Rot near Heidelberg. The Regional Court of Heidelberg has now sentenced him to 11 years in prison. The chamber convicted the young man of murder and bodily harm.

After an 18-year-old killed his ex-girlfriend of the same age in a school in St. Leon-Rot near Heidelberg, the Regional Court of Heidelberg has sentenced him to 11 years in prison, according to the court's ruling. The chamber convicted the young man of murder and bodily harm, as a spokesperson announced.

The 18-year-old admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend in court, according to earlier statements by the spokesperson. The prosecution accuses the German of stabbing the 18-year-old student to death with a kitchen knife in the shared school in St. Leon-Rot near Heidelberg on January 25. He allegedly stabbed her multiple times, including in the neck and chest area. She died at the scene, in a common room.

Serious traffic accident while fleeing

The young man reportedly fled the scene by car and caused a serious accident in Lower Saxony's Seesen. Both the defendant and another man were injured in the accident. Since then, the 18-year-old has been in custody. He is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm due to this accident.

The trial ended sooner than expected. The court had originally scheduled the proceedings until August 15.

The fact that the trial is taking place in camera, according to the Juvenile Court Act, is due to the fact that a bodily injury from November 2023 is also part of the indictment. At that time, the alleged perpetrator is said to have hit the later deceased student with his fist. At that time, he was still 17 years old and therefore a minor.

After the 18-year-old's arrest, authorities found other knives in his possession during the search of his home. Despite being in custody, he was charged with possessing dangerous weapons.

During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that the 18-year-old had a history of threatening his ex-girlfriend with various knives, leading to their tumultuous relationship.
