- Crown Princess has arrived in Paris
Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway (50) has finally arrived in Paris! She was originally supposed to have been there since a few days ago, together with her husband Crown Prince Haakon (51), to attend the Olympic Games in the French capital. However, she postponed her arrival - perhaps due to the arrest of her son Marius Borg Høiby (27) in Oslo. Mette-Marit had previously announced that she did not want to miss the sporting event entirely.
The Norwegian is said to have been in Paris since Thursday evening (8th August), with a visit to the stadium the following day. At the Stade de France on Friday evening, Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon cheered on the athletes, including Norwegian Henriette Jæger (21), who finished eighth in the 400-meter final, and Norwegian Karsten Warholm (28), who won the silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles.
Mette-Marit and Haakon cheer on Norwegians
On Instagram, the Crown Prince couple posted several photos from the stadium on Friday evening, including ones with the two Norwegian participants of the evening. In one photo, the couple poses for the cameras, and in another, they are seen clapping. Both were dressed casually in white polo shirts and seemed to be enjoying their time - a welcome distraction for Mette-Marit after the recent events.
"Even though our athletes didn't quite make it to the top of the podium tonight at the Stade de France, we can still celebrate!" the post reads. "The Crown Prince couple was there to cheer on Karsten Warholm to a fantastic silver medal, and they witnessed Henriette Jæger giving her all in the 400-meter final!"
Why Mette-Marit arrived in Paris later
Crown Prince Haakon has been in Paris for a few days, visiting the Norwegian House and several competitions. The Norwegian Palace announced on Tuesday (6th August) that Mette-Marit would "postpone" her planned trip. Shortly after, it was revealed that her son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Høiby, had been taken into police custody in Oslo following an incident with a woman and was charged with bodily harm. In a conversation with Norwegian media in Paris, Haakon referred to it as a "serious matter".
Despite Marius Borg Høiby's arrest in Oslo, Mette-Marit and other Norwegian representatives continued to show their support for the country's athletes at the Olympic Games. On Saturday, Mette-Marit joined Crown Prince Haakon in attending more events, cheering on the Norwegian team alongside other Norwegian dignitaries.
