Steve Kramer has been implicated in various indictments across different counties, as revealed in court papers obtained by CNN. He's facing numerous accusations of voter intimidation or suppression, as well as at least one count of impersonating a candidate, according to the legal documents.

The charges claim that Kramer utilized a prerecorded phone message with hidden origins or deceptive voice alteration of a candidate, or gave misleading details, in an effort to dissuade voters from participating in the New Hampshire primary.

One of Kramer's representatives refused to comment on the allegations. WMUR, a CNN affiliate, initially reported on the indictments.

The authorities have filed criminal charges in Merrimack, Rockingham, and Belknap counties, which are home to some of the voters who got the robocalls. CNN has tried to reach the New Hampshire attorney general's office for comment.

Kramer, who previously worked on Rep. Dean Phillips' underdog Democratic primary campaign against Biden, admitted to his involvement in the robocall. This call, sent to over 20,000 recipients, urged them to "save" their vote for the November election rather than taking part in the January primary. Phillips' campaign denies any involvement in the robocalls.

This incident is thought to be the first major instance of AI being used to mimic a president's voice in an attempt to discourage voters and has sparked law enforcement investigations and apprehensions about AI's potential future influence on American politics.
