Ciao heat - summer takes a dive

The summer is taking a pause now. In the coming week, Germany encounters an unusual storm tide. Temperatures drop by up to 15 degrees in parts. It won't get warmer again until the weekend. However, stable summer weather is not yet in sight.

After the hottest day of the year so far - with up to 35 degrees Celsius on the previous Saturday in the Bavarian Kitzingen - Tropical Low "Annelie" put an abrupt end to the first summer intermezzo in the western half of Germany, especially during the EM-match of the German team against Denmark in Dortmund, with heavy and intense thunderstorms.

The southeastern part, from Upper Bavaria to Saxony and Berlin, experienced another Tropical Night with minimum temperatures not below 20 degrees. The warmest it was in Coswig, Saxony, with a minimum temperature of 23.8 degrees. Meanwhile, the last remnants of summer air still linger in the eastern half, where stronger thunderstorms are still possible.

From Monday to Wednesday: Letting go and breathing

It will be almost spring-like, with intermittent rain showers and thunderstorms. Fortunately, the risk of thunderstorms is now reduced. And the nights are significantly less sweaty, which also reflects the daily maximum temperatures. They will not exceed 16 to 23 degrees.

Thursday and Friday: Partly rough prospects with storm gales

The Scottish Low, which with its predicted core pressure of 985 hectopascals reminds us more of autumn than summer, sends us a few rough greetings. It will be very windy, with storm gales expected at the coast and on the mountains. Additionally, in the northern half, further showers or thunderstorms are forecast, while with every kilometer towards the Alps, more sun and fewer showers are on the agenda. The temperatures remain summery with 17 to 23 degrees.

Weekend: Sunday is the better day

Despite being in July, it's hard to tell - at least when looking at the weather maps on Saturday. The start of the weekend brings widespread rain and thunderstorms with extremely low humidity of 17 to 23 degrees. Sunday, however, will be more pleasant, with temperatures noticeably rising in the south and east to reach up to 27 degrees. The feeling in the west and north, however, will be refreshing with 17 to 23 degrees.

Following the unusual weather patterns, International meteorological organizations are closely monitoring the storm tide in Germany. Despite the approaching autumn-like conditions, some parts of the country might still experience occasional summer-like weather.
