- Christina Applegate on the beauty procedure
When it comes to the topic of cosmetic surgery, Hollywood stars are often tight-lipped. Christina Applegate (52), however, is candid with her friend Jamie-Lynn Sigler (43) on her podcast "MeSsy" about the procedures she's had and why.
The Emmy winner, who rose to fame playing Kelly Bundy in the sitcom "Married... with Children," reveals she had her only plastic surgery at 27 to remove bags under her eyes. "You know what I did? At 27, I had the only plastic surgery I've ever had, to remove the bags under my eyes," she admits.
TV producer pushed her to have the surgery
But it wasn't just vanity that drove her to go under the knife: "I was in a show and one of the producers - a very famous person who also did a very famous show - said, 'Hey, we're having trouble lighting you under your eyes. Your bags are so big'," she recalls. The producer suggested she have them removed. At the time, Applegate was the lead in the NBC sitcom "Jesse," which aired from 1998 to 2000.
Applegate explains to podcast listeners that the dark circles under her eyes are "genetic" and jokes that her father, record producer Robert Applegate, has "Louis Vuitton bags under his eyes." After the producer's comments, she felt "shame" and they planted "seeds of insecurity" in her head.
Christina Applegate went public with her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, just a few months after receiving the news. "I'd had symptoms for six or seven years" by then, the actress said, and has since been open about her MS. In June, the mother of a teenage daughter said she can't enjoy life since the diagnosis and opened up about a "severe depression that's also a little scary" as a result of the neurological autoimmune disease.
Despite initially having the surgery due to a producer's suggestion, Christina Applegate now regrets her decision to undergo "'The only operation" at 27 to remove bags under her eyes. The producer's comments about her appearance led her to feel shame and insecurity.
