Britney Spears to Get Her Own Biopic
U.S. entertainment media outlets are reporting that Britney Spears is set to receive her own biopic. Universal Pictures has secured the rights to "The Woman in Me," Spears' 2023 autobiography, as reported by Variety. The project will be overseen by "Wicked" director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt, who will bring the story to life on the big screen.
Britney Spears Working on Secret Project
Spears seems to confirm the project and hinted on the social media platform X that she is directly involved. She expressed her excitement about working with Marc Platt on a "secret project," stating that he has "always been my favorite film producer." Platt is a veteran in Hollywood, having produced films like "Legally Blonde," "Gone Girl," and the critically acclaimed "La La Land."
According to a press release from publishing group Simon & Schuster, "The Woman in Me" had sold over two million copies in the U.S. alone by mid-January 2024. Spears' autobiography was published at the end of October 2023. An audiobook narrated by actress Michelle Williams was the fastest-selling audiobook in the history of Gallery Books imprint at that time.
The release date for the biopic is yet to be announced, and specific details about the film adaptation, including potential cast members, are still unknown. However, the information suggests that the project is still in its early development stages.
Universal Pictures, the production company behind the biopic, will be responsible for bringing Britney Spears' story to the big screen, as they've secured the rights to her autobiography "The Woman in Me."
Before the biopic's release, producer Marc Platt, who Spears praised as her favorite, had already made a name for himself in Hollywood with hits like "Legally Blonde" and "La La Land."
