Boy Scouts organization rebrands as 'Scouting America'
A youth organization has announced that it will be changing its name to welcome both boys and girls. The alteration will take place on February 8, 2025 - which marks the group's 115th anniversary - according to the Boy Scouts of America.
In a statement, Roger A. Krone, President and CEO of the organization, emphasized that while the name will be different, the mission remains the same. "We're focused on preparing young people for life," he said. "This will be a straightforward yet crucial step towards making sure everyone feels gratified in Scouting."
Starting in 2018, girls could join the Cub Scouts, a program for children aged 7-10, and the following year, they were permitted into Scouts BSA, an initiative for those aged 11-17. The organization previously mentioned that the expansion was a long-sought-after request and designed to assist families with multiple children in managing their schedules.
As of now, over 1 million youth are enrolled across the programs offered by the Boy Scouts of America, including 176,234 girls and young women. So far, over 6,000 girls and young women have managed to achieve the coveted Eagle Scout rank, the organization reported.
