Atlanta cop apprehended for lethal shooting of Lyft chauffeur.

The police in Union City arrested an Atlanta cop named Koby Minor yesterday, the Atlanta PD revealed in a statement. Minor resigned from the department after being picked up by the cops.

He's facing charges of murder and assault following a shooting of his Lyft driver, identified as Reginald Folks. The authorities stated that Folks was pronounced dead at the scene and shot in the head.

"Our thoughts are with the Folks family during this heartbreaking time. We've connected with them to provide our support and assistance," shared Lyft in a statement to CNN, adding that they had also suspended the killer's account.

The incident came to light when a bystander detected Minor waving his hand on Stonewall Tell Road in Union City and dialed 911, the affidavit stated. Minor claimed he felt like Folks was trying to kidnap him.

Minor allegedly told police that he'd hopped into Folks' car after leaving a fellow officer's home. Apparently, Folks was speaking on his phone through the Bluetooth system in an unidentified language. He also claimed he heard a mysterious voice in his ear, but couldn't make out what it said.

Minor recalled telling Folks to pull over but he kept on driving. When their vehicle stopped at a red light, the cop tried to open the door, but failed to do so. Folks reportedly turned around and made an attempt to reach into the back seat - which is when Minor fired multiple shots. He also shattered the vehicle's window before escaping.

Minor is now being held at the Fulton County Jail. It's unclear if he's managed to obtain a lawyer.

The Atlanta PD hired Minor in 2018. When the arrest took place this week, he was on unpaid administrative leave, said a department statement. He was previously apprehended in Milton in December 2023 and lost his department-issued firearm because of it, according to the statement, which didn't disclose the type of arrest.

CNN connected with the Milton Police Department for more details.
