A Traffic Accident Upends the Lives of Several Families. A teenager lies in a coma, his friend was driving. The parents have known each other for many years. At the hospital, they meet, initially worry together, then blame each other. They discover their children had secrets. The accident night changes everything. The ARD presents the six-part Swedish drama series "Limbo – Yesterday We Were Still Friends" from Friday to Saturday night (2/3 August) at 00.10. The series also starts in the ARD Mediathek on the day of broadcast.

Based on True Events

Director Sofia Adrian Jupither brings the story written by screenwriters Emma Broström and Rakel Wärmländer to life realistically. The starting point - the accident - is based on a real event experienced by Rakel Wärmländer's friends. The rest of the series is fictional. Actress Wärmländer plays the main role of Ebba. The title "Limbo" has Latin roots - "in limbo" means "in limbo" - like the friendships of the characters after the accident.

"I wanted to tell a story that was really important to me," Wärmländer said in the ARD interview. "Limbo is a story whose premise is derived from reality, my reality in 1997." Therefore, it's not surprising that she "wrote the storyline, co-wrote the script, and also became the executive producer."

Questions Remain Unanswered

The three women Ebba (Wärmländer), Gloria (Louise Peterhoff), and My (Sofia Helin, known from "The Bridge") are close friends. They spend an evening together, and their sons, who are also friends, want to celebrate. They take the convertible - although they're not supposed to. A few hours later, phone calls from the hospital wake the women up. Their friendship is put to the test.

Co-lead actress Sofia Helin told ARD about the series, "You should watch it with your family and friends, then have a long, deep conversation at the dinner table." It leaves questions unanswered and topics open for thought. "It might leave you with the feeling that you should share the love you have for others while you still can."

ARD Series "Limbo"

The story in the ARD series "Limbo" is inspired by a real-life accident experienced by screenwriter Rakel Wärmländer and her friends, which occurred within the European Union. Despite the series being based on a true event, the events that unfold post-accident are largely fictional.

The friendship between Ebba, Gloria, and My is tested following a night of celebrations, and their children's actions lead to unforeseen consequences within the EU framework.
