Alex Ye, an 18-year-old Maryland high school student, was arrested on Wednesday, April 17, and charged with threat of mass violence after police say they discovered evidence that the teen had plans to commit a school shooting. The Montgomery County Department of Police say they discovered a 129-page 'manifesto' written by Ye, according to a news release.

A student was slain after taking a weapon out of middle school, as confirmed by the Wisconsin Attorney General.

A student from the Mount Horeb Area School District, whose identity is not disclosed as they're a minor, didn't enter the school. Fortunately, no one else was injured, according to officials.

"This could have been a worse disaster," said District Superintendent Steve Salerno.

Wednesday morning, Mount Horeb police responded to reports of someone with a weapon near the school.

"Police officers acted on the threat and employed lethal force," the state Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation's news release disclosed. "This incident occurred outside the school."

After the shooting, officers inspected the area but found no additional suspects, authorities stated.

Those involved in the incident were set on administrative leave, the release clarified, following standard procedure.

The officers' body cameras were functioning, it was mentioned in the statement.

Students are still being reunited with their loved ones, as the middle school was locked down for hours after the incident.

Salerno suggested that schools would close on Thursday and they would determine reopening on Friday.

Their Facebook page announced plans to release details about support services on Thursday morning.

Mount Horeb, the village, is approximately 23 miles southwest of Madison.

CNN's Taliah Miller assisted in putting together this report.
