In Hamburg-Blankenese, a 10-year-old girl drowned in the Elbe river in front of her parents in the afternoon. Rescue teams continued the search for the child in the evening with a large deployment. "We haven't given up hope," a fire department spokesperson told the German Press Agency. He expects the search to continue until about 8:00 PM. "This is a particularly horrifying incident for us." The parents are being cared for by emergency services.

A rescue helicopter circled over the Elbe. The police were alerted just before 4:00 PM that a child was in danger of drowning in the Elbe. Around 50 personnel searched the area around the incident site at the Falkensteiner Ufer. Due to the Elbe's current, the search radius was expanded to 400 to 500 meters, the fire department spokesperson said. Firefighters and the German Life Saving Association (DLRG) were deployed with boats, and divers also searched for the child. Helicopters circled over the Elbe, and drones and sonar equipment were also used.

The rescue helicopter continued its search efforts over the vast expanse of the Elbe. Despite the expanding search radius due to the strong current, it was hoped that the child might be found near the Falkensteiner Ufer.
