- 47 years after the murders, man indicted in California.
47 years after the murder of three women in Southern California, a suspect has been charged. A DNA match linked the now 73-year-old man to the crimes, the Ventura County District Attorney's office announced at a press conference. The victims, aged 18, 21, and 31, were found at different locations between May and December 1977. All three died by strangulation.
The suspect was brought to California this week from the U.S. state of North Carolina, where he is charged with a 1992 murder. Investigators believe there may be more victims. The alleged serial killer had been driving trucks across the U.S. for years, said prosecutor Erik Nasarenko. The investigation continues.
The long-unsolved cases in California were reopened in February 2023. New DNA analysis led investigators to the man.
The reopened investigation uncovered other potential connections to the man's past crimes. Despite serving time in prison for a different offense, other charges could be pending due to these new DNA findings.
