Shot by the federal police - Suspected attacker shot dead - background unclear

After a fatal shot by Federal police officers against a suspected knife attacker at Lauf an der Pegnitz in Nuremberg, the motive and exact crime scene details are still unclear. "We are still at the very beginning of the investigations," said Heike Klotzbecher from the Prosecutor's Office in Nuremberg.

On Sunday, a 34-year-old Iranian man, according to police statements, approached a patrol car of the Federal Police at a bus stop next to the S-Bahn station. When the three officers got out, he allegedly attacked them. A Federal Policewoman is said to have shot in response. The man died at the scene of his injuries.

Where the man lived, what his possible motives could have been, and whether he had previous disputes with the police, Klotzbecher did not answer the day after the use of firearms. "We cannot say more about the sequence of events yet," she said. Now, the traces must be evaluated and witnesses must be questioned.

The investigation into the incident at Lauf an der Pegnitz, which falls under the jurisdiction of Middle Franconia in Bavaria, is being handled by the public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg. The Federal Police officers involved in the incident are under scrutiny, as the background and exact circumstances leading to the use of lethal force remain unclear. The police are also investigating any potential history of disputes or motives the deceased individual may have had. Despite the ongoing investigation in Nuremberg, the specific details of the crime scene and the man's residence in the city remain undisclosed.
