Prince William discusses Kate's wellbeing.

The Princess Kate has been out of the public spotlight since her cancer diagnosis was announced in March. There's not much information about her condition, but it's known she's undergoing chemotherapy for prevention. During a ceremony to honor the 80th anniversary of "D-Day" in Portsmouth, where her father, King Charles III, also attended, Prince William provided an update on her health.

At the event, a veteran asked William how Kate was doing. He replied, "She's doing better, thank you. She would've been very happy to be here today."

The veteran then shared that Kate's grandmother, Valerie Middleton, worked at Bletchley Park during the war and helped decode Nazi radio messages.

A lot of attention was drawn as Princess Kate was not present at the ceremony, while King Charles came with his wife, Queen Camilla.

Prince William and his emotional speech

At the memorial event, William read a letter from a soldier to his wife on the day of the Allied landing in Normandy in 1944, and he talked about those who didn't survive the invasion and the sacrifices made. "We'll always remember those who served and those we had to say goodbye to," he said. It was quite an emotional moment, with the heir to the throne choking up as he shared the emotional letter.

Unlike William, Charles managed to hold back his emotions during his speech, despite it being the first time he's spoken publicly since revealing his cancer diagnosis. The monarch quoted Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery, saying, "We have the honor to launch the blow of freedom that will live on in history." King Charles and Queen Camilla seemed quite moved and were seen with tears in their eyes.

Kate's first foreign trip since diagnosis

On the actual day of "D-Day," June 6, King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit the "British Normandy Memorial" in the French town of Ver-sur-Mer. It's the first foreign trip for Charles since the cancer diagnosis became public knowledge. William will be at the main event at Omaha Beach in Saint Laurent sur Mer in his father's place. Invited to the event are prominent figures such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
