Infrastructure - Land probes digital construction on B5

On the Federal Road 5 between Tönning and Oldenswort in the Nordfriesland district, the state intends to test the digitalized road construction. Since the road from Tönning to Husum is planned to be three-lane, the first construction section will be part of the pilot project, according to Schleswig-Holstein's Transport Ministry. The construction of this section has already begun in 2021 and is expected to be completed by 2027.

"The B5 is one of the major traffic axes in Western Schleswig-Holstein", stated Transport State Secretary Tobias von der Heide (CDU). The construction should be driven forward as quickly and efficiently as possible. "That's why we're testing Building Information Modeling here", he emphasized.

With Building Information Modeling, the entire life cycle of an infrastructure project, from design to construction, operation and maintenance, and renewal, should be depicted and optimized. The goal is to digitally bundle all information, making the construction process and operation more efficient and cost-effective.

  1. The North Friesland District, where the North Friesland and Tönning are located, will be home to the trial of digitalized road construction on the Federal Road 5.
  2. The Transport Ministry of Schleswig-Holstein has announced that the section of the three-lane road from Tönning to Husum will be part of this pilot project.
  3. The start of construction for this section on the B5 began in 2021 and is projected to be completed by 2027, contributing to the improvement of traffic in Western Schleswig-Holstein.
  4. Tobias von der Heide, the Transport State Secretary of Schleswig-Holstein, highlighted the importance of the B5 as a major traffic axis in the region, calling for the construction progress to be expedited.
  5. To achieve an efficient and cost-effective construction and operation process, the Transport Ministry aims to employ Building Information Modeling throughout the infrastructure project in the North Friesland District, including Tönning and Husum.
