"The Cooperator" - Innovative concepts for the "Star Wars" exhibit at Disney.

Over a century before Emperor Palpatine and his disciple Darth Vader formed the Galactic Empire, the new "Star Wars" series "The Acolyte" takes place. Developed by co-creator of the "Matryoshka" series Leslye Headland (44), this show sheds light on a time period and era in the "Star Wars" timeline that hasn't been featured in films or live-action series until now.

Synopsis of "Star Wars: The Acolyte"

A string of brutal murders aimed at Jedi members disturbs the esteemed guardians of the galaxy's peace. Accordingly, veteran Jedi Master Sol (starring in "Squid Game" actor Lee Jung-jae, 51) and his former Padawan Osha (performed by Amandla Stenberg, 25) start investigating these shocking crimes. Their inquiry is joined by Sol's current Padawan, Jecki (played by Dafne Keen, 19), as well as the slightly haughty young Jedi Knight Yord (portrayed by Charlie Barnett, 36). By uncovering unsettling truths and a mysterious adversary, who is operating in secret, they expose sinister schemes.

Star Wars: A New Era

In the Star Wars prequels, the Galactic Republic was infiltrated by the malevolent Sith. With new "Star Wars" show "The Acolyte," we delve into an era during which the galaxy was experiencing peace and prosperity. The Jedi were the most powerful force. However, a dark and menacing Sith Lord, hinted at in the "The Acolyte" trailer, is trying to recruit apprentices to undermine Jedi authority and disrupt their order.

"There were two reasons why I wanted to set ['The Acolyte'] in this time and so far away from the prequel films," explained Headland in a chat with US outlet "Den of Geek."

One reason was to comply with the established canon. The other reason was due to the lack of popular characters. Consequently, viewers shouldn't expect any recognizable faces in "The Acolyte," save for Master Yoda, who was already living at this time but likely to make an appearance in the series.

There are no Stormtroopers, the Empire, or the Death Star. Instead, Star Wars aficionados of both old and new vintages can anticipate a heretofore unseen chapter in the galaxy's history - and a narrative that examines the Jedi Order's foundations.

The initial two episodes of "The Acolyte" will be released on Disney+ on June 5, at 3 am German time. The remaining six episodes of Season 1 will air weekly after that.
