State education authority - Examination revealed failure at Valeriia's school

In the case of the nine-year-old girl Valeria from Dobeln near Chemnitz, there was no call from the parents on the day of her disappearance due to a truancy at the elementary school. A spokesperson for the Chemnitz Education and Cultural Administration (LaSuB) stated this in response to an inquiry. However, the authority does not suspect any intentional behavior, but rather the hectic school day as the cause. "In this specific case, there were circumstances that, if at all, only point to a minor fault."

The girl, who had fled with her mother from Ukraine to Germany in 2022, set out for school on the morning of June 3 but did not arrive. Hundreds of policemen, along with helicopters, drones, divers, and special dogs, searched for the child for days with great effort. A week later, the body of the missing girl was found in a forest, and she had been murdered.

A few days later, investigators arrested a suspect in Prague. The man, who was arrested in a restaurant in the Czech Republic's capital city, is suspected of manslaughter and murder. He is in custody, and an extradition request has been filed.

A decision has not been made regarding this yet, according to a spokesperson for the Chemnitz Prosecutor's Office. "There is no scheduled date." In this case, there are still many open questions, including the motive and background of the crime. Valeria was buried in her hometown of Pawlohrad in eastern Ukraine at the beginning of this week.

  1. Despite the intense search efforts by the police in Döbeln, near Chemnitz, in Germany, the nine-year-old girl Valeria's body was tragically discovered in a forest, marking a failure in their efforts to find her alive.
  2. Valeria's story gained attention not just in Saxony, but across Germany and beyond, as she had recently fled from Ukraine with her mother and was attending an elementary school in Chemnitz.
  3. The investigation into Valeria's gruesome death has led authorities to suspect a man, who was arrested in a Prague restaurant, and a criminal charge of manslaughter and murder has been filed against him.
  4. Valeria's tragic demise has underscored the importance of emphasizing education and safety measures in Germany, particularly in areas like Saxony, to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring in the future.
