Elton mocks the TV show "Schlag den Star."

Back in April, it was unveiled that Elton would no longer be helming "Schlag den Star." This development wasn't entirely voluntary for him. When the show's first episode without him aired, he couldn't help but make a sarcastic remark.

Maybe Elton was fortunate that he didn't have to particulate in "Schlag den Star" anymore. In the inaugural episode of the ProSieben show, there were a few hiccups.

A duel between two ex-national soccer stars, Mehmet Scholl and Markus Babbel, was supposed to transpire. However, after approximately an hour, Scholl had to be replaced due to a serious injury. The 53-year-old, who appeared sluggish from the beginning, couldn't continue competing for the game's prize money of 100,000 euros. Thomas Helmer, a potential alternate, was summoned - just like Babbel, a previous teammate of Scholl at FC Bayern and the German national team.

Miraculously, Helmer reached the end. However, Babbel unexpectedly withdrew from the competition starting with the ninth game. In the Pickleball-like sport, Babbel tore a muscle, according to a swift diagnosis. This meant that Helmer had to complete the remaining games while seated or standing comfortably.

Babbel emerged victorious in the end. Owing to his triumph in Game 14, where he managed to get a straw from the air into a bottle, he was unbeatable. It's feasible that behind-the-scenes, more physically demanding sports games were haphazardly switched for mind-bending tests. After the Pickleball, it became clear that Babbel couldn't participate in any physically demanding tasks.

Aside from the show's central characters, the stage for "Schlag den Star" was chaotic this time around. There were moments when a cart refused to move, moments when the chains in the "Magnetkette" game were too short, and instances when the Pickleball referee scratched his head in bewilderment over the score.

The burden of managing the pandemonium fell squarely on Matthias Opdenhövel's shoulders. After 13 years, he had last led "Schlag den Star," and he returned to his former office. The cause: In April, ProSieben declared they would part ways with Elton, the longstanding moderator of "Schlag den Star." An independent decision - Elton, born Alexander Duszat, emphasized his reluctance to leave.

As the show aired for the first time sans Elton, he settled down in front of the TV. "I'll watch TV today with a mixture of laughter and tears," he wrote before the show's commencement on his Instagram page. "But I wish the entire 'Schlag den Star' crew a fantastic show."

Despite his wishes, things didn't go quite as planned. Elton couldn't resist chucking a jab at the "Beat the Star" producers. "Puh ... okay ... I guess I'll go to bed early tonight," he wrote during the show. Eventually, screenshots of his remark circulated online. Perhaps it's best that way. Instead of dwelling on his departure from "Beat the Star," Elton should concentrate on the multitude of new responsibilities that are in store for him.

In the end, a straw made the difference between Markus Babbel (r.) and Thomas Helmer.
