Celine Dion, the singer battling Stiff-Person Syndrome, shares her experiences for the first time since her diagnosis. In an interview aired on NBC, she described having severe spasms that make her throat feel compressed. This debilitating autoimmune disease can cause muscle spasms all over the body, including her hands and feet. Even in such severe cases, she's fractured some ribs.
Celine announced her diagnosis in December 2022 and admitted to facing difficulties with walking and singing. As a result, she canceled all dates for her "Courage World Tour" in Europe for 2023 and 2024.
Hoda Kotb, the NBC presenter, mentioned that the singer had experienced the initial symptoms way before, during the "Taking Chances" Germany tour in 2008. That's when she first noticed problems with her voice, and her pitch would rise unexpectedly. Fearing the stage, she avoided performing.
Through physiotherapy, vocal training, and medication, she's determined to fight the disease. "I will return to the stage, even if I have to crawl, even if I have to speak with my hands," she said. She misses her fans deeply but couldn't provide a specific date for her return yet.
"I Am: Celine Dion", a forthcoming documentary, chronicles her battle against this neurological illness. The singer made a surprising appearance at the Grammy Awards in February, dancing and presenting the award for Best Album. 56-year-old Dion took the stage with a warm reception from the audience.
