Federal Health Minister Lauterbach talks to a nurse during a visit to a Sana clinic in Berlin at the beginning of May - about the possibility of working from home soon?

A nurse could potentially work remotely.

Stefanie Kemp firmly believes that the future of hospitals won't be entirely paperless, despite the growing trend towards digitalization. As the head of digitalization at Sana Kliniken, she envisions a world where paper usage is significantly reduced, but not completely eliminated. According to her, the prospect of having 60 to 70 percent less paperwork is a major advantage. Despite this, she emphasizes the importance of patient consent and the necessity of utilizing open interfaces and standards.

Kemp has been in the IT field for over 35 years and has been involved in various transformation projects in the pharmaceutical industry and health insurance sector. She believes that the healthcare system is behind by about 25 years in terms of technology.

She expresses her fascination with using innovative technologies to enhance the lives of patients and her colleagues, which started when she was a young pediatric nurse. Today, as the Chief Transformation Officer at Sana Kliniken, she's leading the digital transition.

Kemp foresees a future with robots on wards, AI-based diagnostics, and exoskeletons to help relieve staff. She questions the need for physical signatures and contemplated the possibility of prescriptions being sent directly to patients' portals. She imagines a future where nurses could even work entirely from home. Aside from these changes, Kemp emphasizes the cautious approach to ensure the benefits reach both patients and employees.

Stefanie Kemp talked about the obstacles of implementing digitalization in the healthcare sector and what we can learn from other countries with Andreas Laukat and Frauke Holzmeier in the latest episode of "So techt Deutschland" podcast.

Stefanie Kemp is Chief Transformation Officer (CTO) at Sana Kliniken.
