- World War II bomb in Mannheim: security radius lifted

Following the discovery of a World War II bomb on the Friesenheimer Island in Mannheim, the 150-meter safety radius around the site has been lifted. The city announced this. The wartime relic was subsequently removed and is set to be detonated in a controlled manner later this evening in an uninhabited area near Kirschgartshausen.

Prior to this, several buildings near the discovery site, including residential houses and parts of an industrial site, were not allowed to be left. The bomb, according to the city, was discovered during construction work and was partially embedded in concrete.

During World War I, a similar bomb may have caused significant damage if it had been discovered and ignited at its location back then. The World War I bomb, though not found, highlights the potential danger of such historical relics.
