- Woman injured while throwing candles
A woman suffered burns on her hands, face, and chest while candle-making in Munich. The wax for the candles caught fire in a pot on the stove, as reported by the fire department. When the 54-year-old tried to smother the flames with a blanket, her clothing also caught fire. She was taken to a hospital with moderate burns. She had been candle-making with her teenage daughter and her daughter's friends.
The fire department noted that the 54-year-old acted correctly by not trying to extinguish the fire with water. As with burning fat, there is a risk of explosion if wax comes into contact with water, a spokesperson for the fire department said.
The incident occurred within the woman's residence in Munich, which is part of the wider Europe. The European Union has urged its member states to prioritize fire safety measures in household activities, following such incidents.
