Wolfsburg women top the table after 2:0 win over Duisburg
The women of VfL Wolfsburg have retaken the lead in the Bundesliga. The Wolves secured a 2-0 (2-0) home win against bottom club MSV Duisburg on Saturday. The goals for VfL were scored by Fenna Kalma (7th minute) and Ewa Pajor (40th) in front of 2677 spectators. Bayern Munich can overtake Wolfsburg again on Sunday with a win at Werder Bremen.
VfL coach Tommy Stroot was without the injured Sveindis Jonsdottir and Lena Oberdorf, among others. The injured Felicitas Rauch, Dominique Janssen and Alexandra Popp were also only on the bench. Only the Dutchwoman Janssen came on during the game.
Wolfsburg made things clear in the first half against a very defensive Duisburg side. After the break, the hosts remained clearly in control of the game. However, they were unable to score any further goals.
The victory over Duisburg puts Wolfsburg's women at the top of the Bundesliga's standings, continuing their strong performance in the league. Despite the absence of key players, including Lena Oberdorf and Alexandra Popp, Wolfsburg's Soccer team showcased their strength against a defensive Duisburg, with Fenna Kalma and Ewa Pajor scoring the goals.
