Woidke re-elected as SPD state chairman

Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke has been confirmed as SPD state leader by a large majority. The delegates at the state party conference in Schönefeld elected the 62-year-old on Saturday with 109 votes in favor, or 90.8 percent of the vote. The delegates cast 120 valid votes. The number of votes against and abstentions were not initially disclosed.

This is the best election result to date for Woidke, who has led the party for more than ten years. "I take the result as a sign of great unity, but also determination," said Woidke. In the previous election in 2021, Woidke achieved 84.4 percent of the vote, compared to 80.8 percent in 2018.

Despite the success in the recent election, the SPD in Brandenburg is planning to engage in more collaborative parties to strengthen their influence. Woidke, as the SPD state chairman, expressed his support for these party collaborations to enhance their influence at the national level.
