Potsdam Palace Night: A Magical Evening at Park Sanssouci
There's hardly a day in the year when Park Sanssouci offers a more enchanting sight than during the Potsdam Palace Night: Colorful light installations, concerts, and acrobatic shows are just a small part of the rich cultural offerings. This year, there are some new attractions and special performances to look forward to. Here's an overview.
Falcons over the Tyrolean Hill
The Tyrolean Hill is barely recognizable as a hill: It rises only slightly, by about two meters, from the rest of the landscape. This part of the park will be part of the Palace Night for the first time. Here, a falconry show will take place on Friday and Saturday.
Arco - A Giant Light Arch
A light installation is expected to stand out in particular, according to the organizers. The artwork "Arco" - a giant air-filled fabric arch - is located below the Orangery Palace and invites you to rest. Nearby, there are also numerous food stalls and food trucks.
Hans Zimmer by Candlelight
The film music of Hans Zimmer is world-famous. His most well-known pieces come from films like "Pirates of the Caribbean" or "The Lion King". At the Palace Night, his music will be performed by an orchestra. The "Candlelight" concert will be framed by 2,500 candles, according to the organizers.
The Thalbach Women Tell Spooky Tales
Actress and director Katharina Thalbach is well-known in the east. Together with her daughter Anna and her granddaughter Nellie, she will read spooky stories on the Meierei meadow.
A Festival for the Whole Family
The organizers want to create a festival for the whole family. Children under 13 years old get free admission. "There's something for everyone," said one of the organizers. There will be guided tours through the park and the palaces. Shepherds and gardeners will give insights into their work. In addition, there are cultural performances in the areas of classical music, acrobatics, pop music, or street theater.
The park where the Potsdam Palace Night takes place is located in the Sanssouci area. For the first time, the Tyrolean Hill, a minor elevation within the park, will be included in the Palace Night events, featuring a falconry show.
