Wernigerode opens Christmas market season
A good week before the first Advent, Wernigerode in the Harz region heralds the start of the Christmas market season in Saxony-Anhalt. After the opening on Friday, more than 60 traders, exhibitors and restaurateurs want to create a pre-Christmas atmosphere between the historic market square, Breiter Straße and Nicolaiplatz until December 22. According to Wernigerode Tourismus GmbH, the offer includes handicrafts, culture, culinary delights, music and, of course, mulled wine specialties. The market will be framed by Christmas lights. The Christmas market will be closed on November 26 due to the Sunday of the Dead.
According to the information provided, a so-called gingerbread forest will enrich the Wernigerode Christmas market for the first time. It will be set up on Nicolaiplatz, they said. The winter market at the flower clock will be extended as part of the Christmas market until January 7, 2024. Among other things, there will be live music here every day.
You can also discover various courtyards in Wernigerode's historic old town, where there are Advent markets. The castle will also continue to attract visitors into the new year with offers and events, such as special guided tours and storytelling sessions.
The gingerbread forest, a new attraction, will be set up in Wernigerode's municipal area of Nicolaiplatz during the Christmas market. The winter market at the flower clock, usually closed in November, will be extended by the municipalities for the Christmas season until early January.
