Weber: Don't let neo-Nazis destroy Europe

With sharp attacks on the right and populists, but also on the left, EPP leader Manfred Weber has sworn the CSU in for the upcoming European election campaign. Weber attacked the AfD in particular at a CSU delegates' meeting in Nuremberg on Saturday. AfD right-winger Björn Höcke had formulated that this Europe must die, Weber criticized. Höcke had thus expressed "what the actual substantive thinking of these Nazis is".

"I would like us as the CSU to speak out loudly against this: we will not let you nationalists destroy our Europe, which is certainly not perfect, but our Europe, which is the most beautiful we have ever had in the history of this continent, the best we have ever had in the history of the continent, we will not let you neo-Nazis destroy it," said Weber.

Weber also distanced himself from what he described as left-wing and green ideologues. A "politics of the center" is needed. He described migration policy and the long-term safeguarding of peace and prosperity as key challenges for Europe. What is needed is a strong and united Europe.

The CSU wants to decide on its list of candidates for the European elections in Nuremberg on Saturday and select Weber as its lead candidate.

In aligning with Weber's stance, the CSU pledges to actively oppose right-wing radicals during the upcoming European elections, ensuring they do not dismantle the cherished European system. Amidst the selection of their candidate list in Nuremberg, the CSU reaffirms its commitment to a strong and united Europe, steering clear from divisive ideologies on both the right and left.
