Walmart's Version of "Prime Day" Approaches

Amazon's Prime Day is scheduled to take place in July, but Amazon isn't the only major retailer with sales on their radar. Following their tradition, other big players are likely to host their own sales prior to Amazon's event, hoping to lure customers to shop with them.

Walmart is the first one to reveal their plans.

Introducing Walmart+ Week

Walmart has its own version of Prime Day called the Walmart+ Week sale. The company made the announcement at the end of May in a press release. Similar to Prime Day, you'll need to be a Walmart+ member to take advantage of this sale. Walmart+ membership costs $98 per year (or $49 for eligible government assistance recipients), making it comparable to Amazon Prime's cost. Sign up for a free 30-day Walmart+ trial if you'd like to give it a spin.

The Walmart+ Week sale begins on June 17 and lasts until June 23 (Prime Day is predicted to be around the second week of July).

A Glimpse into Walmart's Deals Holiday Kickoff sale

Walmart's sale will span various product categories, probably including toys, electronics, appliances, furniture, and more. Sales won't go live until June 23, and they're likely to be mostly online. If previous sales are any indication, you can also expect fresh deals to be added to Walmart's website regularly during this sale.

Here are some of the deals Walmart previewed in their press release:

  • Enjoy double the discount on gas at Exxon and Mobil locations across the country: save 20 cents per gallon.
  • Earn up to 20% back in Walmart Cash on flight bookings, hotels, car rentals, and activities booked through Walmart+ Travel.
  • Benefit from Express Delivery without paying the usual $10 fee, which quickly delivers your order within two hours.
  • Enjoy three free months of Walmart+ InHome, a service similar to Instacart. Walmart employees bring your orders ($35 minimum) to your home and even store them in your fridge.
  • Access limited-edition items only for Walmart+ members. The company hasn't provided details on what these items are.

Walmart also teased a "mystery offer," to be unveiled on June 20, but previewed in the press release. I'm not sure what this offer entails, but my guess is it might be worth keeping an eye out for.

Update: the mystery offer turned out to be an additional discount of up to $5 off your grocery bill when you spend $50, which runs through June 27.
