- Video evidence: Wolf pack "Nordeifel" with seven pups
In the district of Euskirchen, seven wolf cubs have been confirmed in the wolf pack "Nordeifel" through a video. The exact location where the young wolves were discovered was not disclosed by the State Environmental Agency (Lanuv). Additionally, a one-year-old wolf, a yearling, was also visible on the video, explained Lanuv.
In total, this pack consists of at least twelve animals. This includes the two parent wolves, three yearlings, and the seven cubs from this year's litter. The genetic results were provided by the Senckenberg Research Institute, for which fecal samples from the animals were examined.
The wolf range Eifel - High Fens covers the border region of the North Rhine-Westphalian Eifel with its extensive forests. To the west, it borders the confirmed occurrences on the Belgian side in the High Fens. In North Rhine-Westphalia, wolves have settled in several areas and formed packs.
The State Environmental Agency (Lanuv) mentioned that the one-year-old wolf spotted in the video belongs to the "Nordeifel" pack, which is not just the young wolves, but also includes other adult members. Over the years, wolves have established themselves in various parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, forming different packs beyond just the "Nordeifel" group.
