Unknown persons spray swastikas on Islamic burial ground

Unknown persons have sprayed several swastikas and Stars of David on gravestones in the Muslim cemetery in Magdeburg's West Cemetery. A total of seven graves were smeared, the police in Magdeburg announced on Thursday. According to initial findings, the perpetrators came to the cemetery between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

The damage was done with silver paint, they said. The police launched an investigation into damage to property and the use of signs of unconstitutional organizations. They are also looking for witnesses.

The Saxony-Anhalt State Network of Migrant Organizations condemned the acts. According to the managing director, it was noted with "deep dismay". "The desecration of the resting place is not only a cowardly crime, but also violates religious values as well as our basic understanding of democracy," said Mamad Mohamad, managing director of the network.

The act of vandalism on the Islamic burial ground, with swastikas and Stars of David painted on gravestones, can be classified as both a hate crime and an act of extremism. This cowardly act not only damages religious values but also undermines the fundamental principles of democracy.
