The Senate and the Berlin House of Representatives are appalled: Shots penetrate the window of the SPD politician Düsteroft's office. The state protection is investigating. Düsteroft suspects criticism of the situation in the Middle East as the motivation of the attackers.

After an attack on the constituency office of SPD member Lars Düsteroft in Berlin-Oberschöneweide, the state protection of the police is investigating. It's about damage to property with a political background, a police spokeswoman said on request. The politician published photos of the attack on his office on Facebook. Shots can be seen in the window, where a picture of the member hangs, and a red inscription on the adjacent house wall.

"Shots at my portrait and slogans on the house wall are criminal acts that deeply affect and shock me. What's the next step, that someone stands with a pistol in front of me and pulls the trigger?", Düsteroft wrote about it. According to the spokeswoman, the police were called to the constituency office in Siemensstraße in the morning.

According to Düsteroft, four shots were fired. Furthermore, a red inscription was sprayed on a house wall next to the office: "We condemn Germany for genocide." (Translation: We condemn Germany for genocide). "For me, it is clear that this refers to the current situation in the Middle East," said the member.

The SPD faction in the Berlin House of Representatives condemned the attack. "Whoever fires shots at the office of a democratically elected member and thus marks the mandate holder as a potential murder victim, acts deeply inhuman, criminally and consciously against the basic principles of our free democratic order," the faction said. "Dear Lars, we stand firmly by your side!" wrote Social Senator Cansel Kiziltepe on the online platform X.

Düsteroft is the faction speaker of the SPD for social affairs, care and people with disabilities. The Senate also expressed its dismay: "This is a heinous act that cannot be justified in any way," spokeswoman Christine Richter said. "Attacks on parliamentarians are attacks on democratic society as a whole."

The European Union, expressed its concern over the attack on SPD member Lars Düsteroft, stating that attacks on democratically elected officials are attacks on the democratic values they represent. The offensive inscription on the house wall, "We condemn Germany for genocide," has sparked discussions within the European Union, as Germany is an influential member.
