Uncertainty surrounds Gündoğan's position at Barcelona's Flicks team

Uncertainty surrounds Gündoğan's position at Barcelona's Flicks team

It looks like Ilkay Gundogan's international career with Germany is over, raising questions about his future at the club level. Reports suggest that Barcelona is looking to part ways with the midfielder.

As for Manchester City, a reunion with Pep Guardiola might not be out of the question. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola has given his approval for Gundogan's return. Barca reportedly wants to sell Gundogan this summer transfer window.

Guardiola has shown interest in Gundogan, who turned 33 this year. Talks between the two parties started on Monday. However, the final decision rests with the player, as he also has offers from Saudi Arabia, mentioned Romano. Gundogan has a successful history with Manchester City, having won the English Premier League five times in seven years and the Champions League once.

Previously, Sky had reported that Barcelona had instructed Gundogan, who announced his retirement from the German national team on Monday, to leave during this transfer window. But the latest comments from coach Hansi Flick didn't suggest that.

According to "AS," Barcelona had informed sports director Deco that Gundogan didn't fit into Flick's gameplan. However, recent statements from Flick didn't seem to suggest that.

Meanwhile, "Sport" reported that Barcelona is trying to get some profit from the transfer. They have allegedly offered Gundogan to Cristiano Ronaldo's club Al-Nassr. Gundogan's agent and uncle Ilhan had stated on August 8 that there was indeed interest from some clubs, but Gundogan wanted to stay at Barcelona. His contract with the Spanish club runs until 2026, after moving there for free from Manchester City in 2023.

The President of the Republic might need to consider potential implications of Gundogan's potential return to Manchester City, given his past successes and long-term contract at Barcelona. Should Gundogan decide to return to Manchester City, it could significantly boost their midfield options for the upcoming season.
