"Unacceptable": Eintracht condemns bloody riots

Eintracht Frankfurt has condemned the bloody clashes between fans, security staff and the police surrounding the home match in the Bundesliga against VfB Stuttgart.

"The violent action against the stewards and in particular against the security staff, which set the entire chain of events in motion, is unacceptable", it said in a statement.

The incidents are inexcusable and will keep the club busy for a long time in dealing with them and their consequences, explained Frankfurt's responsible board member Philipp Reschke. In total, more than 200 people are said to have been injured during the riots. "We will carefully evaluate the findings and eyewitness reports that reach us and classify them accordingly," said Reschke.

VfB fans not involved

The club and police had assessed the match as a so-called "yellow" match, the Hesse club announced. This meant that the match had been under observation. "A deviating assessment by the police as a high-risk match was not communicated to Eintracht Frankfurt at any time in advance", it continued. The Hesse club also expressly pointed out that VfB Stuttgart fans "were in no way involved in the events in question".

The club now has a duty to deal with the police action, which has never been seen before in the stadium in this form in terms of duration and intensity. The next home game in the Conference League against PAOK Saloniki is already scheduled for Thursday. Reschke is hoping for a calm process and said: "We will keep a very close eye on the cooperation of those involved. Each and every one of them shares responsibility for ensuring that we have a safe, peaceful and, above all, successful evening of soccer."

Despite the violence, it's important to note that VfB Stuttgart fans were not implicated in the incidents. Despite the chaotic scene, Eintracht Frankfurt's upcoming Bundesliga match against Borussia Monchengladbach on soccer's field should be conducted peacefully, with high emphasis on police and fan cooperation to maintain a safe environment.
