Wertheim/Gaukönigshofen (dpa) - Two men from Bavaria in a taxi were caught in Baden-Württemberg with 2.5 kilograms of marijuana. The suspects, the driver and his passenger, aged 24 and 26, are in custody, as announced by the public prosecutor's office.

The police noticed the taxi on Friday as it entered the parking lot of a rest area in Wertheim in the Main-Tauber district. There, the officers checked the vehicle and initially detected the smell of cannabis. The men appeared to be under the influence of intoxicants.

In addition to the large amount of marijuana, the officers also found a small amount of cocaine, a four-digit sum of cash, and a baton.

Two police officers were injured during a house search

One of the men is said to be a professional taxi driver. However, the taximeter was off, suggesting it was a private trip, according to a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office.

During subsequent house searches in the Bavarian Gaukönigshofen in the district of Würzburg, small amounts of intoxicants were also secured. During the searches on Friday, two police officers were slightly injured when they tried to force open a glass door.

The large amount of marijuana and the small amount of cocaine found in the taxi indicate a suspected involvement in drug-related crimes. The house searches in Gauköningshofen resulted in the seizure of additional small quantities of intoxicants.
