Trump contemplates designating RFK Jr. for a position within his administration.
"I've got a soft spot for him and I value his opinion," Trump told CNN's Kristen Holmes during a post-campaign stop in Michigan.
"He's a genius, a real thinker. I've known him for a long while now," the Republican presidential contender stated. "I hadn't realized he was considering stepping down, but if he is, well, I'd certainly be open to the idea."
Trump's remarks came following Nicole Shanahan, Kennedy's running mate, hinting at dropping out on a podcast posted Tuesday. She described it as a move to minimize "the likelihood" of Vice President Kamala Harris beating Trump in the election.
Trump expressed his eagerness for her endorsement, stating, "I've always got a soft spot for him, so that endorsement would be wonderful."
When asked if he'd consider offering Kennedy a role in his administration if he were to win in November, Trump replied, "I might just do that."
"I've got a soft spot for him, and I respect his intellect," Trump said. "If the opportunity arises, I might just take him on. He's different, unique, and incredibly smart. And yeah, I'd be flattered by his endorsement."
Lastly, Trump dismissed any potential backlash from the Republicans if he were to appoint Kennedy, who holds several progressive beliefs.
"I love smart people, and the Republicans love me," Trump declared.
His political views might shift our party's direction, but I find his political acumen intriguing.If Kennedy decides to run for a political office, his unique perspective would make him a strong contender.
