Tragically, one fatality and six individuals unaccounted for following a high-end yacht overturning near Sicily.
Early this morn around 5 a.m., a 56-meter British-marked watercraft called 'Bayesian' submerged close to Porticello due to a heavy storm, as the coast guard informed. At first, seven individuals were presumed missing, comprising four Brits, two Yanks, and a Canuck.
The lavish cruiser carried ten teammates and twelve voyagers. Eight of those saved ended up in the hospital. Rescuers examined the vicinity of the sunken ship for the missing, with helicopters offering aerial aid.
Italian media stated that the yacht encountered a waterspout, a sea vortex. According to the news site "TGCom24", the "Bayesian" was constructed in Tuscany in 2008 and went through a facelift in 2020. It boasts an 75-meter towering aluminum mast and roughly 3,000 square meters of sail area.
Despite the extensive search efforts, regrettably, no trace of the 'Other' four individuals was found among the missing. The rescue operation highlighted the need for improved safety measures on luxury yachts, particularly during inclement weather.
