- The vote of no confidence in the Bremen education senator

The Bremen CDU faction aims to withdraw trust from Education Senator Sascha Aulepp (SPD) through a vote of no confidence. The Bremen Parliament will vote on the motion in a special session on Monday (10:00 AM). The Christian Democrats justify this vote with the recent budget freeze in the education department.

In their view, the authority is failing in its duties, with Aulepp bearing political responsibility. "The now-imposed budget freeze in her department is just the straw that broke the camel's back," emphasizes Bremen CDU faction leader Frank Imhoff. It is unacceptable that around 1300 children in Bremen do not have a kindergarten spot and the annual budget for energy costs is exhausted after just six months.

The factions of the FDP and Bündnis 90/Die Grünen each announced their support for the motion of no confidence. Even if all from the opposition vote for the motion, they will only reach 39 out of 87 votes. According to the state constitution, a majority of the members of the parliament is required for a successful vote of no confidence. Therefore, members of the SPD, the Greens, and the Left would also need to join in. The ruling factions and Bremen's head of government, Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD), have recently stood behind Aulepp.

The Bremen CDU faction is pushing for a special session to discuss their motion of no confidence against Education Senator Aulepp. Following this session, the Bremen Parliament's vote could potentially lead to the withdrawal of trust from Aulepp due to the budget freeze in the education department.
