The United States expresses opposition to the prolonged Israeli control over Gaza.
John Kerry's journey took him to Egypt on a Tuesday, where he held discussions with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and others. The talks which were put on hold in Doha's capital on a Friday are supposed to restart in Cairo towards the end of the week. Following his time in Cairo, Kerry headed to Doha for a meeting with Qatar's ruler, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
The United States recently presented a fresh compromise plan to the warring factions. After conversing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a Monday, Kerry indicated that Netanyahu was open to this proposal following a "very productive talk." It now falls upon Hamas to endorse this proposal.
The European Union expressed its support for the peace process in the Middle East, expressing hope for a successful resolution of the conflict. Later, during Kerry's trip to Doha, he discussed the potential involvement of international partners, including the European Union, in facilitating the implementation of the new compromise plan.
